I had forgotten until just now that we spent much of Gina & Chris’ reception with an eye on some very ominous clouds, that did actually break. Somehow we seemed to be right on the very very edge of them, so took cover for about 10 minutes, still outside and under the large garden umbrellas, then went back out in to the glorious sunshine. Looking at these photographs again today I can say that I am definitely fed up of the rain and missing the sunshine!
Gina has been kind enough to share her thoughts on her’s and Chris’ wedding day
Where did your wedding take place and what made the venue special?
At Woodhall Manor, Sutton, Suffolk on 8th September 2013. We liked having the whole place to ourselves and the choice of some many different areas we could use from the beautiful gardens to the cosy, wood panelled 16th century house, giving us flexibility for all weathers and lots of choice for beautiful backdrops for our photos.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? What was your colour scheme?
The colour scheme was purple but with plenty of creams and green foliage to complement the bold colour of the bridesmaids dresses.
Tell us about the process of choosing your dress? Was it the first one you tried on or did you change your mind numerous times?
I tried on loads of dresses, all different styles and fabrics. It was great fun but also helpful to decide what suited me and what look I wanted to go for. I had thought that I would like a lace dress, and when I shortlisted my favourites they were all lace! After a second try of the favourites, I got it down to 2 dresses and really struggled to decide. After sleeping on it for a night, I made a decision and knew I had picked the perfect dress for my special day.
Where did your groom get his morning suit?
Can you tell me about your flowers?
My flowers were one of my favourite things that I chose for the wedding. After meeting my florist at a wedding fair and booking a consultation with her, I had absolute confidence that she understood me and what I wanted. She didn’t disappoint! I was thrilled at the quality and quantity of flowers used and the colours of creams, lilac and green foliage really complimented the dresses. My bouquet was a stunning cascade of cream and green which was scented by freesias. It looked stunning and smelt amazing too.
What are your wedding rings like? Did you have any other special jewellery?
We went for plain white gold bands. We wanted something simple and classic.
What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
I got a lot of ideas, information and contacts from wedding fairs. It was also helpful to talk to friends and family who gave some helpful hints, tips and advice!
Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.
In addition to our florist, our photographer Jo was absolutely superb. She took her time to get to know us and understand what we wanted, in addition to memorising the names of the majority of our immediate family members for the wedding day. She was great with our little flower girls and all our guests thought she was efficient, professional and lovely. Everything was well planned, clearly thought out and timed to perfection. The software she used to help us decide on our album pictures was really good. We are thrilled with our pictures and the personal, professional service we have received.
Do you have any advice for future brides?
Choose suppliers you get on well with and who take the time to understand you and your day. Don’t get hung up on tradition – plan your day the way you want it and remember to enjoy every second because it goes so quickly!
What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?
It’s so difficult to choose a favourite when they were all so good. I loved the ones of the wedding party, especially with me and the bridesmaids because it was lovely to have all my special girls around me on my wedding day. My other favourites are the pictures Jo took of us in front of the house on the gravel driveway. The lighting is beautiful and they look magical in black and white. I can’t exclude the final picture in our album. We are standing in the rose garden kissing, and Jo has captured the water droplets from a fountain in the foreground of the shot. It really captures a special moment and is composed beautifully.
Was Studio Rochford the right photographer for you?
YES! I have honestly lost count of the number of times before, during and after the wedding that we have said how lucky we were to find Jo. From the moment we found her website we fell in love with Jo’s pictures and knew this was what we wanted for our day. After meeting Jo we also knew we would love to have her at our wedding and capture the important parts of our day. We were able to choose a package that suited our wedding and budget. We were able to specify the types of shots we wanted. We had a thoughtful and efficient photographer at our wedding that engaged with our guests and made the photos an interesting part of the day and we had a huge selection of amazing pictures to choose from for our album. Couldn’t fault a single thing.
