Boatyard Leigh on Sea Wedding for Susie and Pete

The Boatyard in Leigh on Sea in Essex is a firm favourite of mine for lunch or dinner, but it makes the most amazing wedding reception venue. Old Leigh is a gorgeous spot and I regularly shoot engagement sessions there, but it’s quite different walking a bride and groom through the cobbled streets and it’s always so lovely when the locals, out for a walk or a drink, shout congratulations across the street. With ice cream flowing thanks to Cole & Sons and the fantastic Joe Gibson singing through the drinks reception and wedding breakfast, it was a gorgeous, relaxed seaside affair. We asked Susie to tell us about her preparations and her’s and Pete’s wedding day.

Where did your wedding take place and what made the venue special?

St Clement Church Leigh & the Boatyard Restaurant Leigh. Both local to where we live, being able to walk between them was something a little different from the standard.

Did you have a theme for your wedding?  What was your colour scheme?

We brought in a seaside theme to embrace the location.  The main colour we chose was burnt orange.

Tell us a little about your dress, where did you finally find it?

Bridal Boutique in Southend. It was a style that I had wanted from the start, with straps/sleeves, big enough to feel like a wedding dress but not so big the groom couldn’t get near me!

What did the men opt for, and who supplied it?

Tail suits (no hats) from Anthony’s in Billericay.

Can you tell me about your flowers?

Two tone Roses. I Loved the brightness and that you can see reflections of different colours. However we also brought in a balance with some crème roses and green foliage.

What are your wedding rings like?  Did you have any other special jewellery?

Platinum rings from a shop in London where my engagement ring was brought. Pete has a plain band and mine has a few small diamonds in it.

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

Goggle images and then local wedding fairs.

Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.

Studio Rochford! Not just saying this because it’s your questionnaire but we could not have asked for more, the before, during and after service was exceptional. I appreciate that you must do so many weddings but you made ours feel like the most important one. All the details, learning family names, staying until one guest made a reappearance were noted. The quality of photos is also stunning we have had so many compliments on them and SO delighted we went with you to have you capture our day.

Do you have any advice for future brides?

Know when to stop looking, yes get a selection of ideas, prices etc for comparison but then pick one, the longer you look the more you’re get confused!

What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?

I honestly don’t know if I can pick one. There was such a wonderful mix of styles that every aspect of the day was captured. Sorry I can’t be specific!
