It’s always lovely to hear about a wedding from the couple’s point of view, it makes it so personal and it means we can ask them for top tips based on their own experiences rather than ours. Here is Katherine’s review of her own wedding at The Lawn and I’d have to say that I’m thrilled at her choice of favourite photograph! I was lucky enough to photograph Paul’s sister Hannah’s wedding a few years ago, and I have never forgotten the choir that they had in the church or the exit that they made. When I saw the choir start to part in the centre at Katherine & Paul’s wedding I knew this was going to be no ordinary recessional and I wasn’t disappointed! You can see the full effect at Toby’s website if you scroll down to Diamond ~ The Lawn here.
Where did your wedding take place and what made the venue special?
Our wedding ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Church in Rayleigh and the Lawn in Rochford. Holy Trinity is our family church so was special to us already and the Lawn we just fell in love with as it was exactly what we wanted from our wedding venue. I am also a fan of Downton Abbey and it reminded me of the show!
Did you have a theme for your wedding? What was your colour scheme?
Our colour scheme was royal blue and ivory. We didn’t have a particular theme but we had lots of personal touches such as personalised ketchup (the groom’s favourite!), pictures of our parents and grandparents on their wedding days and badges for our guests from charities which are close to our hearts (we gave donations instead of favours).
Tell us about the process of choosing your dress? Was it the first one you tried on or did you change your mind numerous times?
It was the first one I tried on! I saw it online and fell in love with it! As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one! I felt like a Disney princess!
Where did your groom get his morning suit?
Paul hired his suit from Anthony’s in Billericay who were fantastic!
Can you tell me about your flowers?
We organised our flowers with Christine’s in Hockley. She did a wonderful job finding flowers to match the colour scheme at a time of year when not many blue flowers were available. She saw us a number of times before the wedding and even mocked up the table centre pieces.
What are your wedding rings like? Did you have any other special jewellery?
We chose my wedding ring in Michael Clark’s in Rayleigh where Paul bought my engagement ring. I just loved it as soon as I saw it. It is white gold with a v shape on the front for my engagement ring to slot into. It also has a row of diamonds on the front.
Paul had his heart set on a gold band and we found the perfect one at Alba Rose in Rayleigh.
What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
Friends and family gave fantastic recommendations. We also found pinterest really useful for flower and cake ideas.
Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.
All our suppliers were fantastic but we were really impressed with Studio Rochford’s customer service and we were delighted with the photos from both our engagement shoot and our wedding. We would highly recommend them!
We were also delighted with our wedding video which was filmed by Toby Sleigh Johnson who provided us with a 3 minute highlights video 2 weeks later and our full video with 7 weeks which were thrilled with.
Do you have any advice for future brides?
A few tips I was given and a few of my own for other brides:
– Plan the small details such as the music during your meal and gifts for children to play with during the wedding breakfast as early as you can to avoid a busy few weeks running up to the wedding.
– Get recommendations from friends and family of suppliers to use.
– Make sure you and your hubby have at least ten minutes on your own together on your wedding day whether it’s in the car on the way to your venue or nipping out to go for a walk during the evening. Your big day zooms by so quickly and it is so important you have just a moment to yourselves to take it all in!
– Don’t get worried/stressed on the day! Let people do their jobs. Small things may go wrong but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter! Just enjoy the moment and having all the people you love in one place. It is so special!
What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?
My favourite photo is where we are dancing down the aisle to our friends and family choir who were signing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’!
Was Studio Rochford the right photographer for you?
Absolutely without a doubt! Jo and the whole team did such a fantastic job. We can’t thank you enough for capturing our day so beautifully!
