I’ll always remember the day that Grace’s Mum Jasmine called me to ask if I would photograph her daughter’s wedding. Grace and Brett weren’t really bothered about having photographs, but Jasmine was – and she knew exactly which photograph she wanted. A number of years ago she’d seen a photograph of a twirling bride in our studio window and she really wanted something like that of Grace. What we didn’t know of course at the time, was that Grace’s dress didn’t have quite the same size skirt – in fact it had the slimmest of skirts, so we simply came up with a beautiful alternative, which graces (excuse the pun) the cover of this post!
We asked Grace to tell us a little more about her plans, preparations and day.
Where did your wedding take place and what made the venue special?
Ashingdon church – St Andrews.
Both myself and husband grew up around the area and had loved and hoped to marry there growing up. Our dream came true.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? What was your colour scheme?
We didn’t have a theme really, it was just very us. Our colour theme was lilac.
Tell us a little about your dress, where did you finally find it?
I found my dress at Confetti and Lace in Lakeside.
It is just the most beautiful thing I have ever worn, I still can’t bring myself to put it away. It was a trumpet style with lace and a v back, just gorgeous.
What did the men opt for, and who supplied it?
The men had simple grey suits, which came from River Island.
My husband wore a bow tie (big fan of Matt Smith’s Doctor) while his best man wore a skinny tie.
Can you tell me about your flowers?
We had tulips and babies breath mixed in with some other purple flowers, arranged in a very simple, messy style.
What are your wedding rings like? Did you have any other special jewellery?
I found our rings online, we had agreed a long time ago that we wanted matching rings. They are silver and have a battered look to them. I also wore some Pandora earrings in a light purple colour.
What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.
Studio Rochford. We couldn’t be happier with our photos, and Jo was one of the nicest people I have met, she made the both of us feel completely at ease and left us to be us.
Do you have any advice for future brides?
Get help from the people who know you best, and don’t panic. Something may go wrong, but it will still be the best day ever.
What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?
We had one of our flowers, inside one of the tulips was our wedding bands and engagement ring, that’s my favourite.
