I had met Lee and Colette and their friends numerous times over the years at various weddings, all of which were in Essex. When Collette rang to ask me if I would travel to Cambridge I was thrilled at the prospect of working somewhere new and her description of her ideas for their big day left me in no doubt that it would be a fantastic wedding to remember. I asked Collette to tell us more about her plans and their wedding day.
Where did your wedding take place and what made the venue special?
We married at Great St Mary’s Church Cambridge, followed by the reception at Trinity Hall. We decide on the venue as it was like no other venue we had been to at other weddings. We felt it represented Cambridge perfectly and had a traditional feel that we wanted. All of Lee’s friends have been married in Essex and therefore the venues left for us to choose ( that no one else had) were limited. We wanted to go for a city wedding as it was different to what any of our other friends have had.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? What was your colour scheme?
We didn’t have a theme as such but we wanted it to be very traditional and quite a formal affair. We chose top hat and tails for the Groomsmen as we felt it fitted in with the Cambridge feel. The horse drawn carriage is something I had always wanted since a small girl and to feel like a princess which is exactly how I felt. Vintage pinks was the colour scheme for the day and then for the evening venue we brought a modern twist through decorations, fancy dress and signage.
Tell us a little about your dress, where did you finally find it?
My dress was from The Bridal Shop in Colchester. It was Enzoni Harika. A mermaid style dress that was tight fitting in the bodice but had a large skirt andd train. The skirt had lace detailing and a large fabric flower at the side. I had some detachable sleeve like things added to the dress to give different looks through the day. I opted for a bird cage / facinator style veil rather than a long length one.
What did you have for the wedding breakfast?
The menu was supplied by Trinity Hall College. We went for a fish starter, lamb main and chocolate dessert. ..everything Lee and I love! It was accompanied by lots of lovely wine and champagne.
Can you tell me about your flowers?
With the flowers I wanted a traditional vintage feel. Lots of light dusky pink roses (and other pink flowers in have no idea what they are called) each bouquet had an overlay of petals and long ribbon round the stems. The button holes, pew ends and candelabra flowers all followed the same theme.
What are your wedding rings like? Did you have any other special jewellery?
My wedding band matched the band of my engagement ring with delicate diamonds round the band. Lee was just a plain silver ring (he never wanted to wear one but now actually quite likes it). Other special jewellery was my grandma’s ring (she sadly passed away before the wedding).
What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
Other people, word of mouth / recommendations and Google! !!
Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.
All of my suppliers provided a first class experience… they were all fantastic and absolutely pivotal in ensuring my day was totally perfect. As per my testimonial; Jo was of course amazing xxx
Do you have any advice for future brides?
Enjoy every second .. it goes too quickly!
What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?
I loved so many of my photos. It’s so hard to pick a favourite. A few that spring to mind are the ones of Lee and me in the horse drawn carriage, Lee and me coming out of the church with the confetti in the air, me laughing during the wedding breakfast, me and Lee sitting on the bench under the tree. Me with my fan and the very final picture of Lee and me under the arch with the lantern light over us.
Was Studio Rochford the right photographer for you?
Absolutely!! I will recommend Jo to any future bride she was amazing. We can’t wait to use her again for when we have a baby!!!!
